FRIGHTENED IN FARGO:  BEWARE THE CAMERA FLASH

NOTICE: Camera Flash May Be Dangerous to Your Dog’s Eyes

Dear Jubilee:

I just took about 12 pictures of my toy dog dressed in different hats and not once did I think of the flash in her little eyes. I was NOT thinking, just having fun and getting a kick out of how cute she looked. Now, I am afraid I did damage. The camera is a digital camera and it has a zoom and I just read the booklet AFTER I took the pictures, and it does say the flash could damage human and animal eyes ...and to stay 39 inches away! Well I was no more than 20 inches away! Have I damaged my pet? I am so ashamed and scared for her now.

Frightened in Fargo

Dear Frightened,

Have your dog checked out by a vet who specializes in eye problems. The cost of the visit will allay your fears, and if there is a problem, the vet will be able to help you take care of it. The vet will also tell you about things that are dangerous to canine eyes.
